| If you're lucky enough to have never been in a serious
accident or had to have surgery, you may not know the importance of donated
blood, but every two seconds someone in the United States needs a blood
transfusion. The donated blood supply is often quickly depleted. Also
with medical advances, treatment of cancers, major trauma and solid organ
and bone marrow, tissue transplants have increased the need for blood.
Hoxworth and the University of Cincinnati Medical Center is the only blood
center for the greater Cincinnati area. Serving Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana.
They collect, test, process and distribute blood for 27 hospitals and
medical facilities. Their purpose is to enhance the well-being of patients
in our service area by assuring a reliable and economical supply of the
safest possible blood. They are licensed and regulated by the U.S. Food
and Drug Administration. They are also, accredited by the American Association
of Blood Banks and are a member of America's Blood Centers. Buckeye and Wolverine fans can compete in the Tristate Blood Battle! To help support your favorite school to victory, OSU and Michigan alumni fans and students in the Tristate will be able to donate blood and pledge their donation to their team. It only takes about 45 minutes of your time. The body replaces plasma in 24 hours after donation. It makes a positive impact on the community and saves up to three lives in a single donation.
